Have you ever been to a massage therapist, chiropractor, or other body worker and walked away feeling more aligned, relaxed, and open? It would be wonderful to have this type of work done every day, but for most of us it is not practical or cost effective. In this workshop we will use a self-care tool called The SoulMat to get in touch with your own body - in particular the spine and the rhythm of the breath. It is a sensory experience that strays from the physical realm to the psychological and emotional.
A typical person can go to a yoga class or meditation class and achieve a state of serenity at some point by the end of the class. The interesting thing with a class using The SoulMat is that this happens very near the beginning of the class – literally in a matter of minutes. The rest of the class is spent working in that “zone” rather than just trying to get there.
This series will be based on doing various movements and poses with the mat as a way to go inward, connect with the body and breath and begin to build a bridge between the various layers of our being (koshas). It will provide some progressive experience toward more meditative states starting from "landing" in our body and partnering with the breath.
Bio:Chiara practices and teaches yoga as a way to work with the perception that body and mind are separate. She teaches us how to connect the breath with the body, how to track physical sensation moment to moment and how to find an internal wisdom that guides movement and choices for well-being. Chiara has been teaching yoga since 1996 and practicing massage therapy since 1983.
Chiara has studied a wide-range of bodymind disciplines – NonViolent Communication, SoulMat, Meditation, Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programing and Massage – mastering the material deeply enough to provide instruction in each of these areas. Teaching itself is one of her greatest joys. A long-time mover and shaker, Chiara's passion for movement forms has enriched her life with dance, yoga and daily walks in nature. She loves gardening, foreign travel, everything that smells good, warm-oil foot massages, flowers on the table and foods that both tastes and feels good in the body.
Currently, Chiara teaches weekly yoga classes as well as Anatomy, Physiology and Communication for 200 and 500 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings. She has added NonViolent Communication to many of her recent yoga-related offerings and is excited to be introducing the SoulMat – both the tool and the technique – to the Seattle area. Chiara also hosts retreats in several mind/body modalities in inspiring locations around the world. Read more about Chiara at www.chiarayoga.com.

8 Limbs Yoga Centers, a 500-hour RYT certified school, invites yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners to join our Advanced Yoga Training Retreat II. As students, we are always learning, filling our wells and receiving deeper insights through continued practice and study. As teachers, continued study allows us to expand our repertoire and more fully develop our voices and yogic lifestyles. As practitioners, we seek a sangha, or community, with whom we can share our journey.
Our goal is to provide a program and community to help you prosper – in your practice, studies and your career as a yoga teacher. In this spirit on retreat, students will be exposed to a variety of texts, teachers and approaches including classes in therapeutic and advanced asana, art of teaching and sequencing, physical and energetic anatomy, philosophy and yogic lifestyle, Ayurveda, non-violent communication and more.
Senior 8 Limbs Yoga Center instructors Melina Meza and Chiara Guerrieri (each with at least 10 years of teaching experience) will help you integrate your studies “off the mat” into daily life.
