When you know some of the basic standing poses in yoga (Triangle, Half Moon, Warrior 2, Extended Lateral Angle Pose. Warrior 3, for example), you can practice some sequences that connect the poses together to make a more movement oriented practice.
Such a practice can be warming and more cardiovascular, and can challenge to ability to make transitions between poses.
Practicing this way can be fun and can prepare our bodies and minds to fully stay in postures toward the end of your practice.
You begin to experience the various connections between the postures and how the practice of one pose can help in the doing of another.
This workshop is for those without major hip or back issues.
The workshop is open to all who have some background in the basic standing poses and want to see how they can be linked into a practicing with more movement and less holding of the poses.
Fee: $30 if paid by Saturday January 21st
$40 Starting January 22nd and at The Door.
Stressed? Overwhelmed? Exhausted? This workshop offers an experience to reset your nervous system and help your body relax. The combination of the healing effects of the SoulMat and the soothing sounds of Sound Bath will offer you a deeply rejuvenating hour, not unlike the benefits of a massage.
Megan Sloan will use crystal singing bowls and the vibrational qualities of sound to help release energy that is no longer needed and move you into a deeper state of healing and relaxation. Chiara Guerrieri will introduce the SoulMat—a specially designed self-care tool crafted in Italy and finding its way to the U.S. The SoulMat promotes alignment and relieves deeply-held stress as the spine decompresses, thinking slows and your nervous system settles down.
Join us on a transformative journey of healing and deep relaxation, as we bathe every cell of the body in therapeutic sound and vibration. The pure, penetrating sound waves of the gong cleanse the subconscious and awaken the listener to a transcendent state of awareness.
The gong acoustically elevates us, creating a spontaneous meditative state, restoring harmony and vitality to the body and mind. The listener only has to let go and let the sound of the gong do the work. The experience is effortless and the results profound.
We will be supported by the magical frequencies of a Pluto gong. Pluto gongs teach us to let go and to purge the negative energy and thought patters that don’t serve us. Pluto gongs are known for their grounding and calming effect, opening our hearts to forgiveness and healing. The gong bath is best experienced simply lying down on your back or a similar comfortable position. Wear comfortable clothes and bring whatever you need to be relaxed for the meditation (yoga mat, blanket, pillow, extra water, etc.).The sonic massage will leave you feeling tuned, refreshed and connected with your intuitive personal power. With this renewed sense of self comes a profound feeling of oneness with the creative and sustaining life force and energy of the universe. Life then takes on an unbelievable richness that cannot be described. It has to be experienced.
Any natural history of yoga has to be grounded with conceptions of the body and it’s purpose through time. We’ll look at Indian sources for the cosmic body, the body of sacrifice, the body as temple, the meanings of dismemberment and mortification in mythology, and then the “hydraulic awakening laboratory” of the medieval Tantric body. We’ll look at the confusing way in which “hatha” has been translated—as “violent exertion”. Is that accurate?
